Almost $144 billion: damage to Ukrainian infrastructure in a year of full-scale war

Experts of the KSE’s “Russia will pay” project assessed damage of Ukrainian infrastructure at $144 billion. The housing stock, infrastructure (roads, bridges) and industry suffered the greatest losses. Losses in such areas as education, energy, transport, trade and health care also continue to grow.

 

The amount of damages from the destruction of the housing stock is $53.6 billion. Russia destroyed or damaged 50,000 residential buildings during the year.

 

Damages in the field of infrastructure are estimated at $36.2 billion. In particular, Russia destroyed or damaged more than 25,000 km of state and local roads and 344 bridges and overpasses during the year.

 

Losses of industry and enterprises — $11.3 billion, agro-industrial complex and land resources — $8.7 billion, energy — $8.1 billion.

 

Experts also calculated for the first time the amount of damage to Ukraine’s forests – $4.5 billion per year.

 

Damage and destruction of educational institutions continues – there are currently more than 3,100 of them. As of the end of February 2023, losses in the field of education – up to $8.9 billion.
