How tax officials interfere with business operations due to small errors in reporting

Tax vs. Business: How bureaucracy creates obstacles in doing business

Institute for Economic Leadership

The Tax Service named the 5 most frequent mistakes made by taxpayers when filing tax returns. They are as follows:

  • Incorrect indication of the report submission date;
  • Specification of the full name, first name, and patronymic of officials (and initials and surname should be indicated);
  • Incorrect indication of the name of the controlling body;
  • Specification of the abbreviated name of the taxpayer (and the full name must be specified)
  • Not displaying information about the attachments attached to the declaration.

That is, according to Ukrainian legislation, tax officials can block tax reporting or impose a fine due to small, technical errors. Although all this information — initials, names — could be automatically uploaded if the processes were digitized.

As we can see, instead of helping taxpayers and creating a convenient and understandable service, the tax office creates problems for business due to completely formal errors.
