Bureau of economic security: reform failed?

The Bureau of Economic Security should become a radically new, untainted body whose purpose is to protect the Ukrainian economy. Unfortunately, hopes for this are dissipating every day: instead of something new and high-quality, Ukraine seems to have received a hybrid of the Federal Tax Service and the Tax Police with super functions.

What’s going on at the Bureau?

Competitive selection of employees in the Bureau of Economic Security has been ongoing since September 9. It all looks like the point of holding them is to quietly recruit “your” people to the Bureau.

What is also important here is that the public does not control this process in any way, and the contests themselves have no legal basis.

The fact is that in July the Council of Public Control under the Bureau temporarily suspended the powers of its members in competition commissions. This was done with one goal in mind – to prevent frankly sketchy competitions, when the majority of positions were distributed among “their own” long before they were held.

Accordingly, since July, the BEB competition commissions have no legal grounds for making decisions in competitive selections. Such decisions can be challenged in court. However, BEB still holds contests.
